Fun Fact of the Day: Texas Edition

(At my real job I have begun sending out “Fun Facts” to my team, I realized they were really mini blog posts so I thought I would also include them here. Enjoy!)

While most people know that Texas was its own republic for 10 years (1836-1846) (With an official embassy in London and Paris), what many do not know is that Texas had a unique agreement when they joined the Union.  Many think Texes can legally leave the Union and re-form its old republic. This is not true (which should be evident with Texas being part of the Confederacy in the Civil War and now still being part of the Union.)

Texas can however choose to subdivide itself into as many as five different states. Names chosen for two of these possible states are Jefferson (The area of the Texas panhandle) and Lincoln (which would have been the land between the Colorado River and the Rio Grande.)
